The new Macbook Air with the very promising M1 processor

I’m at work as a UI/UX Product Manager. For the past 11 years of my professional life, Macbooks acted like a Swiss army knife to me.

8 years ago I bought my first Macbook Air. I loved it because of it’s weight, portability and its build quality. The thing was so small I took it everywhere I went. 2 years later, I decided to switch back to a Macbook Pro. My professional work demanded a fast machine and the Macbook Air processor was only a weak creature back then.

As mentioned before I really loved the Macbook Air because of its size and portability. Working late at night on the couch, running from meeting to meeting, working during a train ride… the Macbook Air made all of this a lot more pleasant and comfortable. For me this thing wasn’t my fastest option to get things done, but made me more productive in the end because it gave me more opportunities to get myself to work.

As initial reports on the M1 processor’s specifications are very promising, this new Macbook Air could once again become my main workhorse. As a design professional I need a machine that can run highly demanding apps like photoshop and Figma simultaneously. Since the machine has an incredibly powerful processor for its size and powerful integrated GPU, I can also use the Air for video editing and small render jobs on the go. I won’t miss the Touch Bar, and I don’t really need 4 usb-c ports (who needs peripherals on the go?) and it’s CHEAP. A machine that creates more opportunities to be productive I can only embrace.

After Six years of owning multiple Macbook Pro, I’m looking forward to switch my fairly new 16 inch for a new Macbook Air with a M1 processor.
